If I’m preparing a real base image that I’ll use for various server types (Domain Controller, SQL, etc), I’ll typically SysPrep the image somewhere along the road. Depending on my goal, that would typically be after step 2 and/or at step 31. I would also strongly recommend shutting down and backing up periodically. You definitely want to make a backup once everything is completely done. Backups give you a quick recovery mechanism if things get all FUBAR’d (it takes about 10-15 minutes to copy a virtual machine back from a DVD or another hard drive.)
So that’s it. Not a step-by-step walkthrough, but all of the details you need. If you’re following along at Office Geeks and have questions, please ping me on the Yahoo Group. I or another group member will answer you as soon as we can. If you’re following along elsewhere and have a question, please leave a comment and I’ll reply as quickly as I can.
